Pretty Couch Potato

Since I'm being so lazy, I thought I'd at least do it in style:

While wearing a floaty robe...

And drinking prettily packaged tea.

New Year's Eve requires glamour... even before cocktail hour.

Fa La La La La, La La La La-zy

As you can see, I'm too full of holiday food and too busy shopping for a New Year's Eve ensemble (four days away and I don't have anything to wear!!) to blog.

Or more likely, I am just too lazy. The holidays will do that to a person.

I feel awful about the abandonment, but don't worry. I'll be back and blogging in full force in no time.... just as soon as I can manage waking up before noon. Baby steps, readers, baby steps.

Modern Kimono

My love of Asian food is no secret - I'm practically obsessed. But now I can add Asian-inspired fashion to my list of obsessions. Specifically, English brand Issa. The brand makes beautifully patterned wrap dresses that can easily go from class to a party, and I especially love the signature kimono-style sleeves on most styles.

My Favorites:

Necessary accessories: chopsticks, platform wedges, and a bubble tea.

Vest Dressed

In the recent December/January issue of Teen Vogue, I loved the look of a long knit vest one of the models wore over an oversized Maui and Sons T-shirt. It was really cute because the vest was very thin and just slightly shorter than the hem of the dress/shirt.

Since then, I've looked for a similar vest but I only found one. All other vests in stores right now are the short, tailored type. (Sadly, the actual vest is pretty much the only item not listed in the index of the magazine.)

I couldn't find a picture of the actual article... and I don't know how to use my scanner....so just take my word for it - it was a very cute way to wear a vest. And considering that I find the whole vest trend pretty unflattering on those of us who aren't Sienna Miller, that means a lot.

I'll keep looking. Does anyone know where I can find a vest like that?

Ringing In the New Year pt. II

Ages ago, I blogged about that fab Marc Jacobs ring. I've never really worn rings until recently, when I got a beautiful, simple David Yurman ring for my birthday. While it's great for every-day, I've been wanting a slightly more attention-getting cocktail ring to accent all the hypothetical dresses I'm wearing to hypothetical holiday parties. (Honestly, why isn't my life more like Gossip Girl? They get all dressed up for black-tie parties at least once a week.)

These are some I've been considering:

From Kenneth Jay Lane, who makes the most gorgeously fun costume jewelry.

Also KJL. I love this one because it reminds me of Chanel's camellia rings. It would be so adorable with a black dress.

From Forever 21. Cute, and of course you can't beat the price.

Love love love the color. And the design is surprisingly original.

Now all I need are some fabulous holiday parties to wear them to. Until then, there are always Gossip Girl reruns.

All Work and No Play...

I want to apologize for the lack of posts lately... but with two finals down, and two to go, things have been kind of crazy over here. I've actually worn sweatpants two days in a row - something I promised myself I wouldn't do.

I promise to make up for it soon.

Good luck on your finals!

Ringing In the New Year

A couple years ago I got this pink plastic ring with a nail polish I bought (I think it was Hard Candy?). Anyway, I wore that ring everyday for quite a while.

This ring is about the same thing. And I absolutely love it.

p.s. Don't you just love all the kitschy little things they sell at the Marc Jacobs stores?? I mean, I really need a small pen in the shape of a lipstick for my purse. And a very tiny tape measure in a bright color. No, I mean it - I really do!

All I Want For Christmas Is Shoes

Despite the fact that I'm not submitting a wish list to my parents this year, it's still fun to do a virtual, hypothetical, if my dad was named Warbucks, dream list.
So after doing some serious soul searching (and web surfing), it turns out that I want.... shoes. Lots of shoes.

My List:

  • Loeffler Randall flats

  • Marc Jacobs heels

  • avant-garde ankle boots

Perfect stocking stuffers :)

Happy Hanukkah!

For Hanukkah this year, instead of asking for a bunch of clothes like usual, I decided to ask for a spa day. And so, as my holiday gift, my mom and I are going to Bliss spa for facials, mani-pedis, and massages. Yum. It'll be right after finals which makes it such necessary pampering.

I've been really into spa products lately, which is strange considering I've always been more focused on, say, shoes than beauty products. But I've found it's actually really fun and satisfying to take care of yourself, your skin, your hair...for once...

These are some of my favorites:

I'm kind of obsessed with scrubs - especially this one.

My hair is so damaged from dyeing and experimenting. Fekkai shampoo helps heal my split ends.

Unlike other lip plumpers, this one doesn't irritate lips. Plus it conditions; I use mine instead of chapstick.

p.s. Sephora has free shipping for a limited time when you enter "FIFTY" at checkout. Go shop now!

French Dressing

The French are famous for their clean, chic fashion. Two summers ago I found out why. I did a summer program and Columbia University, where I lived in a suite with about 8 other girls for four weeks. The girl in the room next to me was from France and close to perfect. Not only was she tall and gorgeous with an exotic accent, but she had the most excellent wardrobe.

While the rest of us American girls had several suitcases full of good clothes, great clothes, trendy clothes, crappy discount clothes, this girl had only a few of the most classic, perfect items that mixed and matched with everything. Where I do everything I can to avoid wearing the same outfit twice in one month, this girl would wear the same pair of shorts every day for a week and still look fabulous because of the way she put it together.

Her staples:
Since then, I've worked on paring down my wardrobe, but I just can't seem to keep my closet from overflowing. I love shopping and have a bad habit of spreeing at H&M (how can you resist such affordable fashion??), but I still dream of one day having the perfect closet full of quality, classic items that go with everything (plus some fun extras, of course).

Random Grievance

I hate how tailors always seem to hem my pants about a half-inch too short. Grrrr. It absolutely ruins an outfit.
