Trick or Treat

According to Mean Girls, "Halloween is the one night a year when girls can dress like a total slut and no other girls can say anything about it." That may be true, but what if you don't want to dress like a total slut? I spent 6 awkward years in middle and high school trying to fit in, trying to look hot, trying to find my personal style, and now that I'm in college, I don't want to revert back to that young girl who doesn't know who she is. I don't want to sacrifice my style for the approval of some drunken frat boys. Plus, Halloween used to be fun. There's nothing fun about running around in lingerie when it's 40 degrees outside.

However, Halloween is a day away and I still don't have a costume. I was looking online and apparently my costume options are slutty nurse, slutty school girl, slutty flight attendant, slutty fairy, slutty football player... well, pretty much any occupation/mythical creature you can think of, but with a "skirt" that barely qualifies, knee high fishnets, and a top cut to your belly button. The American Apparel website has some cute retro costume ideas, but nothing really caught my eye. I'm going shopping today so I'll see what I can find. What are you planning to be?

Not Your Average Change Purse

I always have so much trouble staying organized. No matter how much I try to stay neat, the mess always creeps in. My room, my desk, my car, my purse are all filled with a jumble of I-don't-know-what. Maybe that's why I got so excited when I saw Anya Hindmarch's "loose pocket pouches". Or maybe it was the scalloped edges and tiny bows that adorn each pouch. Either way, I want one. Or five.

These pretty metallic pouches are stamped with tongue-in-cheek phrases like "girlie stuff", "lotions and potions", and "music" so you have a fashionable place to keep all your lipgloss, cd's, ipod, change, and...pills.

Contrast Tops

Lately I've been noticing a lot of two-toned "contrast tops". I don't know why I love them so much. Maybe it's the sweetheart neckline or the fact that you can look like you're wearing a tube-top without feeling like you're in the seventh grade...or the seventies. And plus you can wear a bra with them which I've found is always an important factor to consider when picking out clothes.

This blouse by Geren Ford is absolutely gorgeous. You can dress it up or down, and the longer back can be tucked in or worn over leggings. I love how shopbop styled it with a tweed skirt and wide belt.

This tunic by Ya-Ya can be worn pretty much the same way. I love the dark, almost slate, blue.

Believe it or not, this tee-shirt from American Apparel may actually be my favorite. It probably can't go dressy like the other two, but I love the extreme contrast between the black and white. (Did I mention I'm having a major American Apparel obsession right now?)

Preppy Princess

I'm currently really into uber-preppy stuff...like the Ralph Lauren polos with the oversized pony logos. So, I guess that explains my love for this J. Crew sweater. It's perfectly preppy with thick black and white stripes and buttons at the shoulders but the large yellow crown adds just the right touch of humor. To be worn with:

wide-leg jeans

or...

a jewel-toned skirt

and...

Adorably unattainable maryjanes.

Pretty In (hot) Pink

For some reason I always find myself irresistibly drawn to anything hot pink. But, even though I love the color, I usually hold back from wearing it for fear of looking too Malibu Barbie. This Stella McCartney clutch is the perfect accent piece to give me my pink fix....I guess I have a thing for satin clutches right now. Hmm. Weird.

Looooovvve it. Hope H&M makes a knockoff version soon.

Stylish Sweatshirts...no, really.

As a general rule I believe that sweatshirts should be avoided as much as possible. Of course I have the obligatory college sweatshirt that shows school pride and, though I'm embarrassed to admit it, is an essential piece for those days when you have a cold/overslept/are doing laundry and have to run to class with absolutely anything on.

I have replaced the sweatshirts of years past with gorgeous knitted sweaters from Vince, the Gap, Target Go Collections, etc. that are like sweatshirts in that they're easy to wear over absolutely anything, but at the same time make any outfit look put together.

However, recently I've been forced to change my opinion of at least SOME sweatshirts...

These sweatshirts are cute, stylish, and anything but sloppy. (from left: citizens, marc, and rebel yell)

Extreme Makeover

Obviously, I'm in the process of giving my blog a much needed makeover. Believe me, this is not the final look - I'm just enjoying some color while I figure out what I want to do because honestly it was sooo boring. Any suggestions?

I need Cher. Or Tim Gunn.

Bubble Tea

I've been obsessed with bubble tea ever since I discovered it a couple years ago. Recently, my friends and I found tapioca "bubbles" for sale in a local Asian food market and decided to make our own. It's only about a dollar for a bag of tapioca and it's sooo easy to make. Tastes just like what you get at the store. (the bubbles are kind of an acquired taste but once you have it a few times I promise you'll be hooked)

Can You Dig It?

I am loving OPI's "Can You Dig It?" grape polish. I usually go for sheer pinks or realllly dark colors because anything in between usually seems childish. But somehow this purple feels just right for fall.

So fab with tights and a little gray sweater dress.
