When did discount fashion become so fab? Discount fashion used to mean ill-fitting, itchy, and overly trendy. It was what you settled for when you couldn't afford the real thing.
Suddenly it's no longer settling. Recently I've been browsing the Gap website almost as much as shopbop. Last weekend I went to H&M and honestly could have bought everything in the store (I exercised self control and only got a few stretchy old-school headbands, a grey cowl neck sweater/tee-shirt, and the cutest lbd). These stores are no longer selling a sub-par version of designer trends. The clothes are made well, in the right colors and styles, so that they fit in seamlessly with the more expensive items I already own.
This realization didn't stop me from being pleasantly surprised when I saw the new Old Navy commercial. It features fair-isle sweaters in stylish cuts that may even be cuter than the $200 Charlotte Ronson sweaters I've noticed on shopbop. I especially love the short sleeved and kimono versions. (Of course, Old Navy just couldn't resist inserting a little discount into some of the designs, a la sparkle thread. Ick. Stay away. I feel itchy just thinking about it.)
I also LOVE the song in the commercial. I already downloaded it and I've been playing it non-stop (Ingrid Michaelson, "The Way I Am").
